ConGRADUATION

23/02/2013 11:06

Saturday 23 February was surely a day of celebration as the first group of UAOWF’s tailors vocational training graduated. The 17 girls and women all passed the exam with brilliance. They are now fit for fight and we are proud to see them move out in the world of tailoring, assured that they will stand the challenge.

During the six months duration of the program they have learnt all the different sewing techniques, handling of sewing machines and both traditional and modern designs. The course also included classes of business management, customer service and marketing to prepare them for the competitive business environment that awaits them. In addition, the women participated in a series of lessons in Human Rights especially focusing on children’s rights, nutrition, family planning and HIV/AIDS awareness and protection.

As they dressed up in their self-designed black gowns, the backyard of the vocational training center was magically transformed into the finest of ceremonial venues. The ceremony included speeches by the UAOWF chair person, the graduates and Ngobi Peter, the Chief administrative Officer of the Kibuku district. Occasional outbursts from both the audience and the freshly pressed tailors introducing dancing and singing frequented the ceremony. The atmosphere was tingled by all the proud smiles from family and friends in the audience, climaxing with the handing out of diplomas to the graduates!

The celebration was rounded off with a delicious meal and sodas for all the guests, graduates and neighbors. It truly was a day to remember.

The UAOWF staff is proud of what the women have achieved and wished them all the best for the future!
